This woodland site was recorded in the Doomsday Book in the manor of Loughborough. Since the war, the Forestry Commission have planted many more conifers, although it is now owned by Charnwood Borough Council.

At one time, the woods were said to abound with bilberries, wild raspberries and strawberries. These days, blackberries are plentiful in season.
